Thunderbird email support
« on: July 15, 2009, 04:49:22 PM »
Would be nice to see Thunderbird in the list of supported email clients... and of course for it to work too. Mail seems to have IMAP problems that make our web server hang so we resorted to Thunderbird.

Thunderbird on Mac OS X (the last time I checked) does not have an AppleScript interface that allows emails to be created with attachments.  Until that changes, there is nothing we can do about it.

There are issues with its MAPI support so it doesn't always work.  Though I understand that there exists a patch can solve the problems.

Deven,

Windows Thunderbird support would be appreciated!

Well, basically it is up to you to get a version of Thunderbird that has a properly functioning MAPI implementation.  Here is the link to the discussion about the problems that I found:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499958#c13

Apparently following the instructions in post #13 solves the MAPI issue with Thunderbird on Windows.

Thanks, that did work.

It would be nice if you could select the To, Cc, and Bcc email addresses in the "Send Photos via email" dialog box, but it is a pretty minor point since you can do that within Thunderbird itself.

If Thunderbird would support that portion of MAPI then it would just work.

I have Vista32 and it works here also with PM  :)

Try this go to www.mozilla.com download the latest Thunderbird version and install it OVER the current version.

1. Right click on file
2. Select 'Send To'
3. Select 'Mail Recipent'
3. Thunderbirds starts up with file attach

after this it also work with PM.

Tom,

supports the latest version of Thunderbird PM under windows, Mac or both?

Only on Windows.  The Mac version of Thunderbird (the last time I checked) does not offer enough AppleScript functionality to be used by Photo Mechanic to create emails.

Sorry Kirk, diesregard my post, please. As English is not my native language, I missunderstood an article which statet that there is still no support yet for Apple scripting. Reading it a second time, made it clear though. I am sorry. Just disregard my question but thanks for your reply.
