Hello,

I am running PM 4.6.3 on MAC 10.4.11 Power PC (not intel). I am finding that if I simply open and view a raw file (I shoot raw & jpg) in Photo mechanic, it will become corrupt. I use Capture One to view & convert my raw files to tiff, and Photoshop for working on the tiffs. The files take on a dark, heavy green cast which I cannot correct out w/o turning the file to crap. It's the same if I bring the raw file directly into Photoshop.

While in PM, I didn't do anything to the raw files. It makes no sense. It has even happened to files that I simply viewed while still on a CF card. I'd really like to know if anyone has come across this problem and what might be the fix!

Thanks,

David

Do you have PM setup to embed IPTC and/or XMP into your TIFF-based RAW files?  If so, then PM is modifying the RAW files.  You can instruct PM to not modify RAW files at all if you wish.  Capture One is particularly sensitive to RAW files being modified.  It's news to me that Adobe's apps have problems (they never have in the past.)  In the Files tab of the Photo Mechanic Preferences dialog, just turn off the "Allow RAW files (non DNG) to be modified for metadata and image preferences updates" checkbox.

As for your damaged files, you should be able to select them and use the "Revert TIFF-based RAW to original" command on the Tools menu to undo the changes made by Photo Mechanic.

Are you sure it's PM that is causing the corruption? It could be that the images are already corrupt on your memory card. Have you tried this simple test:

Take a completely untouched raw file (e.g. one straight out of the camera and copied using just the finder) and duplicate it to two different locations. From one location you will open the file directly in Photoshop's ACR, the other you will first open in PM and then open in Photoshop's ACR.

If there's a difference, it may be that PM is causing the problem (Kirk likely wants to get the two files to be able to see what PM has changed in this case). If there's no difference, the problem is not caused by PM at all, but by something else.
