mystery files in 4.6.7
« on: September 19, 2011, 02:30:08 PM »
I recently install 4.6.7 on a new Imac using 10.6.8.  we are using PM to edit files over our network.  Very  quickly I saw that we had a problem.  After deleting a number of files I'm still seeing a black frame with the words Unsupported Format Variant.  An example: I had a file with about 300 images in it, I tossed out all but 15. Now according to PM there is about 300 images in the file but I only see the black frames. I do see a couple thumbnails from the images I deleted.

I checked the folders these images were in, I only have the 15 remaining that I didn't throw away.

any thoughts?

Are you having multiple users edit the same files simultaneously?  That would be bad.

If you view the folder with the Finder in the Cover Flow view mode, will the Finder show the images?

Kirk

sorry, got tied up on other things.

after more investigation, I'm seeing hundreds of black windows from files that have been deleted out of any folder I go to.

occasionally there might be a thumbnail but when I try to open it, it is either very small or blank.

I don't see this problem when view folders on the desktop or across the network from other macs, seems to be only from our servers.

I have been able to select the file and delete them, but that really shouldn't be the solution.

Sorry I can't tell more about our server configuration, I asked my IT folks to look into, they seem stumped.

any other thoughts?

I'd have to say that it is some problem on your server.  If there are files that have names that indicate that they're images, but the files are damaged or are just zero sized, PM is going to attempt to load them as images and will fail to do so.  What is making the files become damaged?

I've got to belivve its a server issue and how it views these files.  What I'm seeing is not a damaged file, its the file I've trashed. PM is seeing some remainder of the file on the server maybe?

I'm only running this level of PM on one mac right now, so its not problem in other areas, more a concern.

I'll continue to hound my IT folks to take a deeper look.

if they have questions is there a contact that I can pass along?

You can always send me a personal message on the forums (just click on my name to the left of this message and then click on the link 'Send this member a personal message.')

Basically I think that the issue is that when PM scans the chosen directory, filenames are returned that don't exist and this would indicate a server issue.
