How Get Photos Into Folders By Date?
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:46:51 AM »
Why did PM create a folder with the date of the upload and put photos into folders named 106Pana and 107Pana (panasonic camera)?     I wanted folders to be created with the names being the date the photos were taken in the format yyyy-mm-dd, and have them located under my 2011 folder in My Pictures in My Documents.

What settings do I change to get that?

Use the variables like:

{year4}-{month0}-{day0}

These variables represent the data from the image.
After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Tom,

You also need to tell Ingest to Ignore the Source Directory Structure.  You also need to set the Copy Photos popup menu to "Into Folder with Name".  Then if you put Sven's variables example into the Folder Name field, you should get what you're wanting.

Ingest is documented on page 69 of the manual.  You can get the manual here: http://www.camerabits.com/download/Photo_Mechanic_4.6.3_Manual.pdf

OK.  Thanks.   I'm going to have to do some reading of that manual.    This doesn't seem highly intuitive.

Tom,

Understandable.  If all you want is a simple dated folder where you can't choose the date, you can set the 'Copy Photos' popup menu to 'into dated folder only'.  Sven's suggestion is a bit harder to comprehend, but you can arrange the variables and get the date in any format you desire.  Variables are worth understanding and mastering.  They're one of Photo Mechanic's most powerful features.

Hi, Tom
You can also use these variables to rename the phtos with the subject, the date and a sequence number...for instance:
TourEurope-{year4}-{month0}-{day0}-sequence
