migrate ftp connection settings on windows?
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:58:41 PM »
Hi,

I am migrating to a new-ish (we're bankrupt, remember) Windows 7 laptop. I have all my drop down lists populated and my snapshots in order, but I can't find the file to copy over that contains the FTP connection settings. Help?

This is on PM 4.5.3.1  (did I mention that we're bankrupt? :-)

Thanks.

-Carl

Hi!
Go to the preferences windows, choose "Export", select everything, save the file and transfer it to the new machine.
Go to the preferences window there and choose import.

After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Sven,

Go to the preferences windows, choose "Export", select everything, save the file and transfer it to the new machine.
Go to the preferences window there and choose import.

Version 4.5.x does not have the same feature that you're describing.  It does have and Export/Import feature but it doesn't export/import a lot of the things that version 4.6.x does.

We're looking into where the data is stored (probably in the Windows Registry) and once we know where it is we'll follow up.

OK, sorry for that... Didn't know that.
After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Hi Carl,

Photo Mechanic version 4.5.x stores its preferences in the System Registry on Windows. You will need to open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following directory: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Camera Bits, Inc.\Photo Mechanic. Click on the Photo Mechanic folder so that it's selected, then export the registry keys by using the Export command located in the Registry Editor's File menu - Save the .reg file. Now move the .reg file to the new computer, open the Registry Editor on the new machine and import the registry keys using File > Import.

Make sure Photo Mechanic is quit during this operation.

HTH,
-Jerry
