Yes, it is {total} or {totl} for a shorter version.

Kirk, {total} gets the number of images, not the number of printed pages.

The Print Setting dialog already calculates total pages on the fly. Love to embed that into the footer.

I would be interested in the total page variable too (Page 1 of 20, Page 2 of 20 etc.) when printing contact sheets. Any chance this can be added with the next update?

Not in the next update (4.5.3.1) but likely in the 4.6 version.

Unfortunately it never did get implemented.  I'll add it to our tracker for version 5.
