I'm not so sure this is a permissions issue as I'm having the same problem. I'm using Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 13217 (68ec133) on a Mac Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8. The photos in question reside on a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo connected over Gigabit Ethernet.

This is a new problem, unique to PM 5. Deleting worked flawlessly on version 4.6.7 with the same setup.

The odd thing is that after refreshing the view, PM5 does not display the thumbnail even though the file still shows up in the Finder. It does show up if I close the contact sheet and reopen the same folder again.

If it matters, I connect to the ReadyNAS Duo over AFP.

I checked and the permissions on the file that I'm trying to delete are 666. (read & write for all three groups)
I've tried restarting the app, even though this is happening on two separate installs, with no change in behavior.

What other information can I give that will be helpful?

Nothing that I can think of.  I'd need to get information from PM 5 while it is doing the operation.  That would mean building a logging version for you that you would run and then you would get the log file back to me.  Basically on network volumes there is no 'Trash'-- items are deleted immediately.  Why this isn't happening, I do not know.  Are you willing to run a logging version?

No problem at all. I'd be happy to.

Interesting bit of information. If I use the Copy function with "Move photos (delete originals)" checked, PM5 does indeed delete the originals no problem.

Even stranger...

PM5 will not delete three or less files at a time from my NAS. Four or more files delete correctly.

On my local volume, PM5 will delete files normally.

I am using 2 ReadyNAS Duo's and one NV+, I am connecting over AFP, too.
I can delete move or rename images all OK within PM.

Please have a look in FrontView for your share(s).

Go to shares, click on "AFP" for the share in question, go to advanced options and set the share owner (user) again.
Also set in this dialog the "grant delete rights".

What Firmware is your Duo on? I know that the latest release has some issues with AFP.
I am running 4.1.10 T3 (beta version).

Sven
After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Sven,

I found the problem that Daniel was having and have solved it for the next build.

Daniel confirmed the fix.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Kirk, I hope the next build fixes my problem as well. Same as above except I am running 10.7.4 (Lion) (I thought 10.6.8 was Snow Leopard - the subject says Mountain Lion, I guess it is just a carry over?). I am accessing files on a Qnap TS-212 NAS via afp. Same issues as Daniel which only started after switching to PM5 from PM4.

Hi again, I have tested this issue at another location with the same results. I am on a MacBook Pro (10.7.4) connected to a LAN. As at my last location, using PM4 I am able to delete an image on a network drive and it is removed from the disk. Deleting the image Using PM5 the thumbnail is removed (placeholder still there in preview) but the file still resides on the external drive. If I close PM5 and re-open the folder the image appears again.

I will be going back to PM4 hoping that this issue will be corrected soon.

Regards,

jmo, are you having the problem if you try to delete using other programs?  This was my problem, it was not limited to PM5.  All my permissions seemed fine, but on one of my internal hard drives it was not possible to use Trash.  There is a lot of material about this problem on the Apple discussion forums and elsewhere.  None of the suggested solutions worked for me.  In the end I had to reformat the offending drive (having made two backups of the data) and reload the data.  After that it worked fine.

Thank you for your reply. However, I do not have any issues deleting files on this external drive with any other application (windows or mac). Also, PM4 deletes the files without any issue. It appears to be limited to PM5 which I run on my mac. Desperately waiting for a fix.
