How to retain full file size in Save Photo As?
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:13:17 PM »
I'm trying to save ARW files as tifs with a crop. I specify No Scaling on the menu, but the resulting image files are tiny: 5MB instead of the 24MB that the files are to start with.

Same result whether or not Apply Crop is in effect.

I don't have this problem with Lightroom, which keeps the filesize on Export.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks very much

Photo Mechanic is using the embedded JPEG preview which is likely much smaller than your RAW file would be if it were rendered.  I suggest converting your ARW files to DNG files and make the DNG Convertor embed full size previews.  Then your Save As sizes will be full size.

Or if you're on a Mac, you can turn on RAW rendering, but it won't likely look the same as the Lightroom output.  DNG takes care of that.
