(optional) change of ingest order for images and videos
« on: April 21, 2013, 12:11:29 AM »
Hi @ all!

As cameras are now (more or less) used to capture images AND videos I'd like to have the option to change the order of files ingested.

Currently it seems that the files are ingested from the card "by name".
Using Canon-stuff the images start (normally) with img_ and the videos with mvi_

That results in having the movies and images not in the order captured but the movies ingested as the last files.

Would it be possible to implement a routine that the date and time of the captured stuff is evaluated before the ingest to have the files ingested and renamed in the order they were taken?

Thanks
Sven

Hi Sven, I think this would considerably slow the ingest down as this would require reading and interpreting the files from the card first, then ingest them. Why don't you simply rename the files so the stay in order of time shot (e.g. use the date/time shot) or sort your folder on date/time shot?

Would that not achieve the same result for you?

Hi Hayo!

Yes, it would achieve the same results but requires a few more steps.
(Ingest, sort by capture time, rename all items)

I know that this will be slower than as ingest goes now.
Therefore I added the "optional" in front.

If I am the only one, please forget it then :)
