Poor thumbnail quality w/NX
« on: December 06, 2006, 11:10:49 AM »
Hello,

I am having a small issue with the thumbnail quality of images converted from RAW to JPG using Nikon NX.   The thumbnails are very "chunky"   Tested images with Nikon View and windows explorer with better results.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Troy

Are the output files actually JPEGs or are they NEF-JPEGs?  What is the filename extension on the output files?

Troy,

I have uploaded an image at    www.imageryconcepts.com/test

Both thumbnails and previews looked quite good.  You don't happen to have "Generate high quality thumbnails" turned off in the Contact Sheet tab of the Preferences dialog, do you?

I did have it turned off.    That helped.   Still odd tho.   Files generated from ACR looked great.   Must be Nikon not playing nice again.

Thanks for the help.

If you have "Generate high quality thumbnails" turned off, the speed increase of rendering the thumbnails is substantial, but the quality is extremely poor.  The EXIF thumbnails are used and no higher quality thumbnail is ever generated.

We added that feature for people on extremely tight deadlines who can't waste time on high quality thumbnails.
