Modify parts of many .IPT files

Hi to all!

I've got many .IPT files that I've saved over the years to help me doing the metadata job on pictures.

The agency is asking us to make some changes in some fields of the metadatas.

Is there a way to modify (faster than one by one) a part of my .IPT files?

No, they're loaded singly into the IPTC dialogs.  There is no way to modify them in bulk in Photo Mechanic.

If you're adventurous you could always try editing the (XML) files.

IPT files are binary IPTC records, not XML.  I suppose something like ExifTool might be able to handle a bare IPTC record (one not embedded in an image) but I don't know for sure, nor do I know if it would be able to rewrite the file.

Ah, I stand corrected. I thought all the snapshot files were XML as I edited some in the past. I guess not so for the .ipt files. Pity.

It is for that reason that we offer to save IPTC Stationery Pads as XML instead of as IPTC binary (.IPT).  XML is a more forward-looking format that welcomes modification with simple tools.
