Send by FTP AND Save a copy ...
« on: June 11, 2014, 06:12:08 AM »
Hi,
We are trying to send a picture by FTP, and at the same time Save a copy to another location.
That works when we sav it to a folder on the Windows machine where PhotoMechanic v 5.0 is running or a folder on a mapped drive. We are having difficulties in saving the pictures onto the root of a networked drive?
We can drag and drop a picture into the same location, but we cannot persude PM to save it there.
The error message that come back say that: Unable to upload because: "Save a copy of transmitted photos" is checked, but the specified directory: "U:\" cannot be found.  Please choose a save directory, or change the "Save a copy ..." options.
However it will work with on a Mac with OSX Mavericks and 4.6.9.
Is there anything that we might be doing wrong on Windows.
Many thanks for your help?
Martin

Martin,

Could you post a JPEG screen shot of your FTP dialog showing its settings?  And a JPEG screen shot of Windows Explorer showing that U:\ drive?

Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshots.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hello,
Here are the screenshots that you asked for.
They are from PM 4.6.9 on Windows 7, where we are getting the same experience as on PM5 with Windows 7.
Many thanks for your help,
Martin

What happens if you choose a subdirectory of U:\ instead of the root?

Hi,
PM will save a copy to a folder in the root, but not to the root itself.
At the moment, I have other processes which deliver to the root, and which also pick up from there, so I am keen to try to deliver there rather a subdirectory.

I have no workaround for you at this time other than to save to a subdirectory of your server volume.  We can try and fix the problem, but it will likely be weeks before you would see a solution.

Thank you very much for investigating ... we will try some workarounds, but it appeared to be a straightforward solution to how to add a second delivery location.
I appreciate that a solution to this rather obscure problem will not be anywhere near the top of your list !
Best wishes.

It's not that way at all, we'll try to fix it, but it may require work on your part and it still would likely take weeks before we'd have a new public release ready.

Are you willing to run experimental versions of PM?

Martin,

Can you post a JPEG screen shot of the error message you get when you choose the root of your server volume?

Thanks,

-Kirk
