Opening photo's between computers

Hello,

I'm trying to open photos that I've uploaded to my windows laptop in my iMac but all of the tags and color class is lost.  Why is this and where did it go?  Initially, I just dragged and dropped them and opened from one machine to another, but that did not work.

What tutorial or information can I search to learn how to ingest to windows, set tags, ratings and color class and move to my main hard drive on my iMac and preserve all of my organizing?

What file format(s) are the images?  If they're JPEGs, all of that information is guaranteed to be stored in the images themselves and Photo Mechanic on both platforms should see your changes.
