So for all of you that want this feature, what would you expect to happen to the sequence number?  Would the newest file start with 001 or would the oldest file start with 001?

Oldest please...

Hi,
I would rather the sequence number keep the appropriate time sequence, i.e., the oldest file starts with 001 (even if a reverse ingest had occurred).

I would vote for a check-box in the ingest dialog.
oldest to latest ingest: as it is now
latest to oldest (reverse)

This way anyone can control the order of the ingest. PM "just" needs to get the capture date/time of the images on the card first and then ingest.
But what happens if you are using multiple cards / cameras? How to handle these?

I never had the need of using reverse ingests as I used multiple cards: one card per cam reserved for flower and / or medal ceremony. These have always been ingested first.
sports (swim, bike, run in any combination or alone), animals, sometimes aeroplanes
sony alpha 1, 9, 7III and a bunch of lenses (24-600mm)

I would say: keep it simple. One checkbox for reverse ingest, sequence numbering as always oldest first.
Open in contact sheet with reverse sorting already ticked.

The last setting you set in the Preferences dialog.  Ingest has no control over your Contact Sheet preferences.
