Issue with metadata not in Lightroom
« on: May 04, 2015, 01:50:13 AM »
My colleague has an ongoing issue with Lightroom not picking up the IPTC metadata which has been added in PM5. We though it was a Lr problem but we noticed this morning PM is creating 2 XMP files. One .xmp (which shows data) called a 'text' file and .XMP called a 'photo document', which is a blank file. We think this is what Lr is looking at?

How can this be changed? Any ideas?

I'm pretty certain that it's not PM that's writing those text file versions of the XML files. So there must be some other program doing this. But what program it could be, I have no idea  :(

By the way: I'm sure that if you will have a look at them they actually have a file name that has a .txt suffix (which is hidden by the finder). Have a look at what the file info says (CMD + I) to verify.

Jon,

I don't know why you would get both lower-case filename extensions and upper-case extensions.  It looks to me that the drive on your colleague's computer is formatted with a case-sensitive file system.  This would allow two files with the same name, differing only in case to exist in the same folder.  Is there a reason why he needs his disk formatted in this way?

Also, the Finder should see a .xmp and a .XMP file as both being of the same file type.  I think Hayo is right and something has added .txt or .rtf to the .xmp files.  PM certainly won't do that.
