I seem to remember being able to right click and open groups of folders/sub-folders into one folder so I could do a mass IPTC search.

Haven't needed to do that for awhile (and I have upgraded versions several times).  Now I don't see that as an option.

Am I having foggy memory syndrome or did this feature get removed/moved?

I still have it.  Windows 8.1; PM build 16765.  Right click on the subsequent folders and I have the option you want.  Hold Shift and double click also does the trick.

Both the Favorites and Navigator offer menu items for opening folders and their subfolders from the right-click contextual menu on a folder item.

I thought I remember seeing it, but I have attached a screen shot of my Windows PM (build 16765) with a folder structure and I don't see the option everyone else seems to see.

What am I missing?

It's right there in your screen shot.  I'm not sure how you can miss it.

"Open Folder and Subfolders in new Contact Sheet"
"Open Folder and Subfolders replacing Contact Sheet"

Items 7 & 8.

Do you see them now?

So did "Open Folder and Subfolders replacing Contact Sheet" replace "Open Folder and Subfolders in Current Contact Sheet" sometime in the recent past?  I am guessing that replacing the contact sheet is really the same as cumulatively adding subsequent folder/subfolders?

Mike,

It hasn't changed since it was first implemented years ago, to my knowledge.  If you want to add a folder cumulatively then you need to use the "Open in current Contact Sheet" contextual menu item.  I don't think we ever offered a way to open folders and their subfolders cumulatively to an existing Contact Sheet.  It could completely overload PM with too many images.  Even the folders and subfolders options are problematic.  But we don't expect users to use it on the root of a hard drive full of millions of images.  If one does do that then PM won't be able to handle it.
