Yes.

Kirk, If it's to be released this year, it must be in wide beta test as we speak.  If not, how reasonable is it to assume that v6 really will be as stable / robust as the v5?

It is indeed in beta testing.  The core functionality of PM6 is PM5.  It is well tested.  We won't release a product that lets our customers down.

Robert,

We have a number of beta testers now that we've worked with in the past that are fulfilling our needs at this time.  We will have public beta period prior to release that will allow everyone to participate.

PM5's Ingest can already ingest from specific folders.  Instead of ingesting from disk(s), you select "Folders" and use the Add button to add the folders you want to ingest from.

Sorry to drag up such an old thread, but I was trying to find info on v6 and came across this. The OP mentions "a lot of discussion about Version 6" in a two year old thread. Is there any prediction on a release date?

No firm release date, but PM6 will be released this year.

-Kirk

Clearly this didn't happen. In fact I remember PM with a cataloging feature being stated as "imminent" on this forum about 4 years ago.

I've long since stopped thinking about cataloging and just look for PM to keep with the times and with other software with it's current functionality. It would be nice if it better integrated DNG files with raw and JPG files. It would be nice of it recognized sidecar files from more converter/editor apps (such as Luminar) and linked them to the raw and related files. It would also be nice to see the Zenfolio uploader working again without waiting interminably for the Cataloging version to be released.

I've been able to get along just fine without cataloging by doing a proper job of file naming, keyboarding and file organization. Luminar V3 has introduced cataloging, and it is a kludge, plus integrates poorly with its own editor.

I guess I didn't express myself correctly. I want to be able to select the files within a folder that I want to ingest. When I go shooting, I will shoot over multiple days and have all those files in the same DCIM folder my my SD card. I want to be able to ingest img_0001 - img_0034 into one folder, then img_0035 - img_0999 into another. That is currently not working and would be great to have.

I newly discovered Photo Mechanic (have not yet purchased).  Has there been any indication what kind of updates or features will be added in version 6 that I see referenced?

Hi RobDMB,

Thanks for checking out Photo Mechanic.  While there has been discussion on these forums about possible future features, at this point there is no official list or anything like that. If you try Photo Mechanic with a free trial, and the features work well for you then I'd suggest basic your purchase on that. It's not quite like the stock market. :-)  You'll get free upgrades to whatever version may come out in the year following your purchase, but there is no guaranteed list of features.

I hope this helps

We offer an upgrade path that is discounted from the full version price.  Currently it is US$90.00 but is sometimes discounted further when we have sales.
