Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 16438 (e61be25)

I want to incorporate EXIF/IPTC data into my watermark, but have noticed the following particular behavior.

1.) Ingest file via card reader into designated folder
2.) Preference = Filename and three labels selected for Contact Sheet
3.) IPTC/XMP, Add embedded metadata = XMP and IPTC
3.) Frame # appears when I hover over image with mouse
4.) export to PS CS5 to resize and edit photo
5.) Save edited photo to new location
6.) Hover over image in PM and Frame # is now 0

Note: There appears to be several fields that are now blank
Could be something with PS, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this behavior

When you save the file in Photoshop as jpg, some of the meta data gets stripped (especially the makernote data as that almost impossible to maintain when resaving the image). If you really need to maintain the frame number, you'll need to save it in one of the IPTC/XMP fields before editing your file. That way it should be preserved when resaving the file.

Thanks for your quick reply Hayo

I do save the file name (frame #) in the Title/Object Name field in IPTC.

Will try using that variable when creating watermark

Cheers

It is the fault of Photoshop.  It does not preserve all EXIF data when saving to a new file.
