Since you're on a Mac Perl is already installed for you, so that's great. Then it is just a matter of installing both the script and exiftool. Once you're done with that, head over to the exiftool forum and ask further questions there (if any).

It seemed to go thru the right procedures, and wrote a 'fixed' folder BUT no files were recovered at all - its Error claimed these D610 files were not Nikon 610 or other nef files at all.

So, I'm not sure why since you were able to recover at least 2 of the files.

I saw your post on the exiftool forum too. I suggest we take the conversation there since it's exiftool/Phil's revovery tool specific.
