« on: November 12, 2017, 03:16:32 AM »
When Previewing Photo using PM, The straight lines of the picture is jagged in macOS Sierra

This does not happen before I upgrade to macOS Sierra, not happen in the other iMac with EI Captain

Please take a look at the screenshot, this is very annoying when selecting group photos via PM, can not see if people's eyes are open or not. is it possible to fix it? thanks a lot

Is that in zoom to fit window view or also at 100% zoom? Are you using HiDPI display (Retina), per chance? What are your Preview preferences regarding High DPI display rendering, sharpening and RAW rendering (using Apple's ImageIO or embedded jpeg for previewing raw files)?

Try different settings for the HiDPI display if you are on a Retina device. The Best (uses more memory) is slowest, but most accurate (PM Settings/Preview/High DPI Display Quality).

It is the fit window(Zoom is unchecked)
I'm not using Retina monitor, in the preference I have tried 3 different options(Standard, better, best), but still the same.
and sharpening is unchecked as always.
the preview is using raw embedded jpeg

Does resizing the preview window slightly produce any change in the image quality?

Hi Kirk, I have tried that, the quality does not improve, still the same, just slightly shift the jigsaw locations

OK.  And if you zoom in on the image, do the artifacts go away?

I have noticed that, If I check the zoom on the preview page, the artifacts will go away

I try to resize the window almost as the same size as the 1/4 of the actual image, and slide the zoom option to 1/4, check and uncheck the zoom, if check the artifacts(jigsaw) will go away, if uncheck the zoom, let it fit the window, the artifacts(jigsaw) will show

Hi Kirk, is the problem fixable? thanks a lot

I don't know what is causing the problem.  I have to imagine that there is some minor realtime scaling going on when in the 'to fit mode' and the image is drawn to the window.  I'd have to create some logging code in the draw code and get you a version to test with.  You would reproduce the problem and send me your PM log and I'd study the log to find out where the discrepancy is.

Are you interested in testing (it may take several iterations to come up with a solution) and posting logs?

Hi Kirk,
Sure, definitely I am interested in testing because this is a very big issue when selecting images.
have you tried using PM in Mac Sierra? did not find this issue? because 2 of my mac using Sierra has this issue. but with EI Captain has no issue, pretty obvious.
How can I participate in the testing? do you need my email or sth? thanks  a lot

OK, first make sure you have the very latest version of Photo Mechanic.  See http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=11114.0

Then using a plain text editor create a new text file called PMDebug.txt with the following contents:

IMAGE_DRAWING_LOGGING ON

Then save it to your desktop or some other easily accessible folder.  Next, switch to the Finder and choose "Go to Folder..." from the "Go" menu.  Enter the following:

~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic

Then find your PMDebug.txt file and copy it there.  Launch PM5 again.  Reproduce the problem.  Then close the Preview window and from the Help menu, choose "Reveal Support Data" and moments later a Finder window should come forward with the file "PM.log.zip" selected.

Reply to this message, use the "Attachments and other options" button and use the 'Browse...' button in the "Attach" section and either find that file using the dialog, or switch back to the Finder, drag and drop the PM.log.zip file onto the dialog.  Then post the message.

I will download your log and hopefully it will help me find the problem.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks.  It's a bit confusing in the log with all of the resizing occurring.  Could you do the test again with the least amount of steps (no resizing) that reproduces the problem (no zooming either) and then send me the updated log?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks for the log.  I have added more logging code.  Could you do the same test again with this version and send me the updated log?
