PM6 Ingest from selection
« on: March 26, 2019, 02:38:35 AM »
I just can't seem to figure this out.
My take:
I pop a card in, it will show me a dialog box with images on the card, I make a selection of images, then the usual upload procedure of making folders, applying IPTC, etc would apply.
Have I got this wrong and how does it work?

It imports just the images that you have selected in a contact sheet.

Select the files you want and then click Ingest from Selection and then only those files will be imported into the destination folder(s) you have specified.

You can apply a IPTC template either during the ingest or afterwards once the files are ingested.

Yeah I sort of just figured that out but that means:
Popping a card in
Closing the ingest window
Going to the navigator
Finding the drive where the card is
Double clicking on the drive to bring up a contact sheet
Making a selection of images
Clicking ctl(cmd) + g
Selecting the ingest from selection radial button and THEN
The usual ingest procedure

I was expecting a simple import dialog box like the one in LR!

If you have PM6 configured to show you a contact sheet once the card is inserted you’d simply select the images you need and then press CMD SHIFT and S and then you can import only the files selected.

In Preferences > General look for this.

Thanks, I have only ever used the open ingest dialog box, didn't think to look at other options!  :D

Well it works.  But what a dog's dinner approach if this in fact is the way it's designed.

The sensible workflow should be: memory card is mounted, Ingest Dialog Box pops up,  Ingest from Selection is chosen, AND THEN the contact sheet is created. Images are selected and then an Ingest button is chosen.  This should all be done from inside the Ingest dialog box without having to go to the "File, Edit, Image ..."  tool bar.

Dave,

Given that the Ingest dialog is modal, you would not be able to interact with the contact sheet until you closed the Ingest dialog.  I don't see how this could work?
