Capture Date being changed from DJI drone pics.
« on: May 26, 2020, 11:43:48 AM »
Mac 10.14.6 Mojave on a MacBook Pro
Photomech 6.2

When I ingest  raw files from a DJI Mavic pro 2 the created date says it September 2017  even though I have taken them today (May 2020).

If I click on capture time it says the correct date ie today.

If I look in Lightroom the date is correct,however once the picture is opened in PM it goes back to 2017,and the EXIF information now saved as  2017.

I sent the same file to my colleague who uses PM but on a Windows laptop and there is not a problem.

I have checked the date on the drone controller and that is correct and when previewing the pic on the controller that is correct.

I tried shooting a pic on jpeg settings on the drone and did the above and that gives the date 1970!

I have had this drone for 6 months and looking back it has always had this problem.

When I ingest images from my Canon cameras there are no problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Geoff,

Can you provide a sample image, straight from the drone (not modified in any way), please?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

One JPEG file attached, taken yesterday (May 26) straight from drone .If this is opened in PM it says created 1/1/1970

The RAW file was too big to attach, but those ones have the date 9/2017

Thanks

Geoff,

One JPEG file attached, taken yesterday (May 26) straight from drone .If this is opened in PM it says created 1/1/1970

ExifTool claims it's from a Hasselblad L1D-20c, is that right?

From ExifTool:

  | | DateCreated = 19700101
  | | TimeCreated = 110732+0100

PM is picking up the same data.  Is this image fresh from the camera or has it been modified?

Hi

Yes it is a Hasselblad L1D-20c,from a DJI Mavic pro 2.

The image has not been altered in PM.

If I download a pic direct to my Photoshelter account the EXIF capture says todays date.

If I download the same  pic to Photoshelter that has been through PM it has the 1970 or 2017 date on it.

Thanks

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

  Thank you for the sample file and updates.  The file's Exif times are from just few days ago : 2020-05-26 @ 11:07:32.  The XMP times are all the same, 1970-01-01 @ 11:07:32.  I am not sure how these old dates were applied to the XMP metadata section. I see a Photoshop CC 2017, an Adobe Camera Raw version 7.0 and a Photo Mechanic 6 signature in the file.   Did you use any other application to make changes to this file?  If so, what app was it and at what point in the your workflow did it make the updates?

  There is an easy batch fix for the XMP dates.  If you use Photo Mechanic's Metadata Template and just apply the Capture Date, then the XMP dates will now match the Capture dates.

Best regards,

--Bob

Hi

The picture that I attached had not gone through any adjustments but it had been ingested by PM.

I am going to attach 3 more pics,all the same frame and taken today (June 1) .

I have changed the template to have capture time on it.

The first has been ingested by PM,gone through Lightroom, cropped a bit, and a caption put on in PM.

The second has just been ingested by PM and the third is direct from the card.

Thanks

Geoff,

Thank you for the additional samples.  Only the sample that has been modified by Lightroom exhibits the problem.  Can you provide a sample that has been ingested by PM, modified by Lightroom, but has not been updated again by PM?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Geoff,

This pictures  ingested by PM, modified/cropped by Lightroom, but nothing else done to it,i.e no caption.

$ exiftool -v /Users/kbaker/Downloads/DJI_0321.jpg
  ExifToolVersion = 11.88
  FileName = DJI_0321.jpg
  Directory = /Users/kbaker/Downloads
  FileSize = 3091896
  FileModifyDate = 1591109466
  FileAccessDate = 1591109470
  FileInodeChangeDate = 1591109468
  FilePermissions = 33206
  FileType = JPEG
  FileTypeExtension = JPG
  MIMEType = image/jpeg
JPEG APP1 (17818 bytes):
  ExifByteOrder = II
  + [IFD0 directory with 9 entries]
  | 0)  ImageDescription = default
  | 1)  Make = Hasselblad
  | 2)  Model = L1D-20c
  | 3)  XResolution = 240 (240/1)
  | 4)  YResolution = 240 (240/1)
  | 5)  ResolutionUnit = 2
  | 6)  Software = Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 9.2.1 (Macintosh)
  | 7)  ModifyDate = 2020:06:02 08:35:44
  | 8)  ExifOffset (SubDirectory) -->
  | + [ExifIFD directory with 31 entries]
  | | 0)  ExposureTime = 0.03333333333 (1/30)
  | | 1)  FNumber = 2.8 (28/10)
  | | 2)  ExposureProgram = 2
  | | 3)  ISO = 120
  | | 4)  ExifVersion = 0231
  | | 5)  DateTimeOriginal = 2020:06:02 03:44:51
  | | 6)  CreateDate = 1970:01:01 03:44:51

It is Lightroom that is making the EXIF CreateDate be 1970/01/01.  I believe the reason this is caused is due to the original image on the card having embedded XMP with the following two key/value pairs:

xmp:ModifyDate="1970-01-01"
xmp:CreateDate="1970-01-01"

Hi

Thanks for looking into this but when a pic is ingested by PM and does not go through LRoom it has the 1970 date so I don't see how LR can be the problem?

Thanks

Geoff

Geoff,

I'd like to see your Metadata Template showing what you're doing with the date.  I'd also like to see what your Ingest dialog looks like.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshots.

Thanks,

-Kirk
