Unable to Scan To Catalog When Filename about 160 chars
« on: December 20, 2020, 04:24:53 AM »
I am using Windows 10 and PM+ Build 5348.  I love the catalog feature and continuous improvements.

There are two related issues I found.  I have a file that is seven folders deep.

(1)   If the length of the last folder plus the file names exceeds 160 (or thereabouts) PM+ will not show the preview of the file.  Instead it will show a blank image.  If I shorten it, PM+ will show the preview properly.

(2)   Cataloging Issue (This is with build 5348 and 5378.   Issue was not present in build 5277.)

I create a new catalog and turn off Generate Preview and Thumbnail proxy.  I then “Scan To Catalog” using the root folder for my photos.  When the Catalog process encounters this file with 160 chars in its name it enters an endless loops and puts this message in the PMDebug.Log:

[2020-12-19 17:40:15.865 Sat] [19784:41b8394:6f08060] [ERR!] DYN: CBits::ScanWorker.io_with_pause_retry: Error: lstat on "D:/Photo/Life/2020/…

Failed with: No such file or directory @ rb_file_s_stat - D:/Photo/Life/2020/…

However, the file does exist and Windows explorer can copy it.  The workaround is to shorten the filename.

My request is:
(1) If an error is encountered can we skip the file
(2) when the catalog process is done can you give me a cumulative list from each catalog of the files that had problems:

---------
Catalog: Personal
2020-12-20 Unspecified error on file: DayAtTheBeach.jpg
2020-12-13 Skipped file: corrupted.jpg
---------
Catalog: Client Smith Wedding
2020-12-17 Unable to process file: bad.jpg
2020-12-16 Unable to extract metadata from: ThisIsAPdf.pdf

Thanks,
Cedric

Thanks for the report.  We'll look into making Photo Mechanic Plus on Windows work with longer paths.
