Catalogs on external hard drive not displayed in Active catalog

I'm running Photo Mechanic Plus Version 6.0, build 5560 (6e1b8a6) on a macbook pro with Big Sur v. 11.2.1 
I have all my catalogs stored on a LaCie external hard drive.  they are not showing up at all in the Active Catalog dropdown, despite being recognized in the Manage Catalog window.  I hadn't  had a problem before updating with Big Sur.  is that the problem? I can create new catalogs in the Manage Catalog Window, but then Active Catalogs doesn't show the newly created catalog to add images to.  Have I done something stupid?  (always my first instinct...)

Can you post a screen shot of what the Active Catalogs looks like (and one from the Catalog Management window, or both in one shot if you can arrange the windows accordingly.) ?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.
