Rename in selection order

I want to change a certain number of images by using the name change sequence function. I want the first image I select to be named xxxxx01, the second image I select to be named xxxxx02.
I do not want the pictures to be renamed based on the sorting preference for my contact sheet - but based on the order in which I have selected the pictures. Is it possible?

No, not directly.  Though you could sort by Arrangement, arrange the photos by selecting them and then dragging them to the desired order, then selecting the group and performing the rename.
