No embedded IPTC in RAW files
« on: January 18, 2023, 01:19:39 PM »
It seems IPTC info doesn't get embedded into my RAW files. However to my understanding my settings should result IPTC to be added to RAW files as well as XMP.

I'm using an M1 MacBook Air with OSX 11.4 (20F71).

Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 6645 (f4860a9)
Working on Mac, OSX, iOS and with some Canons.
Allways shooting RAW.

Your settings look fine.  What are you using to determine that IPTC isn't being written into your RAW files?

I accidentally deleted some of the XMP files and all metadata disappeared from the RAW files.

The I did similar tests on purpose. When the XMP is deleted, IPTC disappears in PM. When I enter new IPTC, then XMP is created. When I delete it, metadata vanishes. When I copy back the old, it returns.

Thanks.  We'll investigate and get back to you.  What RAW file format are you working with?

They are CR3 files from a Canon R5. None of them was wrote protected in camera or before ingest. I always ingest them with PM and shall get a basic IPTC set of infos upon ingest. Later I fine tune it manually.
Nor the info added upon ingest, neither the manual changes seem to get embedded.

I’m not at my computer now, I will be able to check later if it is the same with some other RAW files from a different brand camera.

They are CR3 files from a Canon R5.

Photo Mechanic is unable to write metadata into CR3 files at this time.

I see, so this is not an error, but a known issue with the CR3 format.

I’m sad to hear. I hope you (and Canon?) will find a solution soon.

Thank you very much for your prompt replies and all the invaluable help!
