Any word on Photo Mechanic 7
« on: July 16, 2023, 01:03:53 AM »
I was just curious what the status is on Photo Mechanic 7. Is it under development? Any word on when it might release and what changes we can look forward to?

Hopefully it will happen before PM loses relevance and all of the competitors catch up function wise. Hopefully way before that

I love this program, for me its the captioning and preview speed. I hope that we will see a Universal version soon along with an updated GUI. Either way I will still use it, and it performs just as well on Silicon as it does on Intel, which is a testament to its programming.

What improvements would you like to see with respect to the UI?

Not so much improvement and badly worded on my part, I very much look forward to a native universal version.

Maybe adding the ability to sort/filter by custom metadata fields & file types

The main thing missing from PM6 on a Mac is a native version, or at least one that takes much less cpu even when idling.

Ability to set custom shortcuts would be nice. Well, make anything have a custom shortcut option

Why this great ruah for PM7?  PM6 works just fine.

I don't think it's a rush, but more the migration to a universal binary application. While it runs fine for me using Rosetta 2 for others it doesn't. Many applications have migrated already, and it is anticipated that any major revision change will see a UB version of PM and PM+

it works fine, as fine as it did 5(?) years ago since Pm6 release, but a lot has changed since that and we as loyal users expect PM to stay the best app and add more current features

You can do this in Photo Mechanic Plus currently, and in Photo Mechanic 6 you can create a custom sort method and have your contact sheet sorted by camera model.

Being able to set our own keyboard shortcuts would be amazing. Some of the predefined ones are difficult to remember.

Being able to utilise Apple's core graphic editing would be a game changer. Who wouldn't want to do basic editing without round tripping to another app.
