Affinity as default photo editor (letting Windows chose)
« on: July 27, 2023, 11:51:18 AM »
I have moved Photo Mechanic to a new computer.  I am now using Affinity as my prime photo editor.
So for first use I clicked in Preferences Let Windows chose and clicked on the Affinity Photo 2 icon choice.  Affinity launched.  I did not click on make default photo editor for that first time, leaving the check box blank
But now when I try a second time or third time, and let Windows chose for some reason Windows automatically launches Windows Photo without giving me a choice. How do I tell PM to revert to asking me to launch Affinity which it did first?  Then I can make it default (There are apparently known problems with finding the Affinity Photo .Exe file which I also haven't been able to find so I would like to just have the choice I thought I had at first.)
Or any other work around would be appreciated.

thanks

That choice most likely came from Windows.

The following Microsoft article has information on choosing default applications for specific file types: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-default-programs-in-windows-e5d82cad-17d1-c53b-3505-f10a32e1894d#ID0EDD=Windows_11.

The page has instructions for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Thanks for the quick reply
That worked and PM is now launching the Raw files into Affinity
