gimp / raw therapee wit .raf (xh2) files

With photoshop worked seamlessly but due to recent Adobe events and the licensing annoyances have switched to gimp. When I set editor preference to the gimp executable it does not open when I have selected raw+jpg preview. Any ideas?

From what I can tell, GIMP does not support opening images by drag-and-drop on to the executable (which is what Photo Mechanic is simulating when calling external editors)   The advice I have seen is that you can manually drag the images from PM into the Gimp Toolbox area to open them
