Slow Rendering
« on: July 12, 2024, 12:19:41 AM »
I have completed my first shoot with my new Nikon Z8. I shoot only raw files. When I am culling the photos, the rendering slows dramatically after going through about 20 photos. I have tried to enlarge the cache settings and other adjustments in the setup however nothing seems to help. I have read and tried the recommendations from the FAQ’s.

Any suggestions?

I have a high end desktop computer with 64 GB Ram, 4090, SSD drives, etc.

Is there something about the Z8 raw files?

As far as I know there is nothing different about Z8 NEF files compared to any other NEF file. Photo Mechanic displays the embedded JPEG (unless you have enabled RAW Rendering, which is generally not necessary for Nikon files) for those just like any other NEF file. A cache is used for quickly accessing data that has already saved to it, making it larger doesn't making rendering newly accessed images faster. I can't think of any reason why rendering of images would slow down after a certain number of images, perhaps you could produce a screen recording where you recreate the issue which may offer some hints about what is going on.
