Search doesn't show CR3-Raws, just the Jpegs.
« on: July 13, 2024, 01:24:42 PM »
Hi,

as written in the title: Cr3 raws don't show up in Quick search as well as in the "edit" search. CR2 files turn up in raw and jpeg. I use PM6 latest version and macOS 12.7.5. Why?

What are your search terms?

Since you're using the Search my Mac feature which uses the macOS Spotlight feature, the search results are limited to what Spotlight indexes.  CR3 RAW files use XMP sidecar files which are not indexed in association with any other files by Spotlight, thus no search results will include RAW files (unless you were just searching filenames, which is why I asked about your query.)

The Catalog feature of Photo Mechanic plus does index XMP sidecar files and knows what RAW files they're associated and searches for metadata on them returns excellent results.

Hi Kirk,

thank You for Your answers. I never knew what for I would need PM+. This would be a reason. Unfortunately since I'm retired it's not so important anymore.

Best regards
John
