The dreaded Beach ball on iMac!
« on: July 16, 2024, 02:11:06 AM »
I vaguely recall asking this question before and Kirk responded in his usual prompt manner. However, I cannot find his reply despite searching the forum. Retirement is great but it also has drawbacks such as forgetting things!!!!!

The problem is I have Beach balling on a 27" (early 2019)  which has 64Gb Ram, 3 Tb HDD. Mac OS Sonoma version 14.5. PM Plus Ver 6.0 Build 7102 (796dd4a).

I do appreciate that the iMac is, like myself getting on in life but I also have a newer MacBook Air (8Gb) with a similar problem. The MacBook may be struggling because I was foolish enough the skimp on memory when I should have went for at least 16Gb, lesson learned!

on the iMac 27" my PM Plus setting are currently Disk Cache size 3000
Reserve at least 3000

Memory cache size = 10% (6553 Mb)

Any suggestions re the above would be very welcome.

Thanks Frank

Your settings aren't likely the problem, as they seem reasonable to me.  For a problem like this, I suggest contacting our support folks at:
