A problem with getting previews from the RAW file is that you don't get a histogram, or indication of out of range highlights / shadows and certain image parameters which are normally displayed in the sidebar window.

And, now that we have the horsepower, it should be possible to show both overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows at the same time...

Both of those things are working on a rendered raw file for me, with the Renderer set to "Built-in Renderer". Please see my attached screenshot. If there's a specific file or file type where you are experiencing this issue, please send it to us.

Thanks.  That's not showing any underexposed shadows, at the same time as the overexposed highlights. Do do see the histogram before you render, when using an external raw renderer such as the apple or adobe  ones?

We haven't designed it to do this yet, which is they are still two separate options.

My screenshot was intended to show that Photo Mechanic could show you the blown highlights on a RAW image after a preview has been delivered by the RAW render (implying that showing shadows was also possible if I changed that setting). If I have Photo Mechanic set to 'always render the RAW', then I see the histogram after the render has finished, and the histogram is for the image that the render produced.

If you are not seeing a histogram for your images, regardless of your raw rendering settings, please provide an example.
