Replacing catalogued RW2 by DNG after conversion
« on: March 17, 2025, 01:26:32 PM »
I'm usually shooting native DNG+JPG files that are autocatalogged by PMP.  Occasionally I use a camera that produces non_DNG raws.  If I forget to "add to catalog" upon ingest, I have to hunt down those RW2 files after conversion.

Here's the inconveniences:
-- after conversion, the pairs are still RW2+JPG
-- if I delete the RW2, the pairs become dng+JPG and are green, BUT the dng files are not yet added to the catalog!

I go into finder and delete all RW2 and newly emitted XMP files.  Then I select all and include in catalog.  Then I need to go to Browse, find the folder, and remove the RW2 from catalog.

The problem is, I cannot select just RW2 files!  They are paired with JPG files in browsing.

How can I select by the exact extension, dng or RW2, in the contact sheet?  In either files or catalog browsing by path mode?

You can view them as separate images.  View->Combined Images

Use the Find command to search for .DNG or .RW2 in filenames.  I suggest not using a case-sensitive search for the possibility that some of your filenames will have uppercase extensions and some will have lowercase extensions.

Thanks Kirk!
What workflow do you recommend ingesting RW2+JPG pairs in order to use Convert to DNG and then end up with only the dng+JPG pairs in the catalog?

The Adobe DNG Converter works best with entire folders of images rather than invoking it one-by-one.  So I would suggest using it directly, then delete the RW2 files if you really don't want them (otherwise move the RW2 files somewhere else).  Then Scan to Catalog the new pairs of DNG+JPEG.
