Michael,

I tried the new Beta and it worked correctly. I could assign Command-R to 'Apply Rotation to JPEGs' and the Keyboard Shortcut settings matched the menu items.

Great, thanks for trying the updated build.

One thing I noticed, but I don't know if this is by intention: When a command like 'XYZ (with prior settings)' has no shortcut assigned, it is being shown in the menu below its 'related' menu item 'XYZ'. If it has a shortcut assigned, the menu item is only shown when the modifier key is pressed.

It is a side effect of how Apple handles alternate menu items.  Three things have to occur for the alternate menu item to be hidden:
1) They both have to call the same function.
2) They both have to have a keyboard shortcut assigned
3) The alternate needs to have the same keyboard shortcut as the main item and it has to have the Option key as part of its shortcut.

To fix this, Record Command-Option-R for the alternate menu item for Apply Rotation to JPEGs.
Another note: Even if you don't record that shortcut and the item remains visible in the menu, if you do hold down the Option key while choosing the Apply Rotation to JPEGs item, it will still skip the settings/confirmation.  In fact, you'd have to hold down the Option key for the alternate that is always appearing in order to get it to run with prior settings.  That's just how many commands in Photo Mechanic work.  For more info, see:

Michael,

Thank you for testing, and your feedback.  If you wouldn't mind, please try out the Slide Show, especially if you have multiple monitors.  It has been completely rewritten and uses Apple's Metal system for hardware accelerated graphics.  Note: the Slide Show will start up on the monitor that the Slide Show dialog was on when the Slide Show is started.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Another request from a fellow user. He said there is no shortcut option for “opening in finder” which would be very useful to him

Hi Kirk

I tested the slideshow and it worked like before, no issues found.
But I don't have an external monitor, only my Macbook Pro 😉

Thanks and regards
Michael

I right click on the thumbnail or preview and click on "Reveal in Finder".

Updated build: https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicR8578_afca8f9d.dmg

Corrects issue with overlapping defaults between Menus and Contact Sheet/Preview.  The "Image->Set Rating of Photos->various ratings" shortcuts have been disambiguated by adding the Shift key to their shortcuts.

Added "Contact Sheet->Reveal in Finder" item that can be customized.

Added corrupt preferences database recovery which can fix issues with a corrupted preferences database either on startup or if it were to happen during runtime.

Please give the above build a try if you have time.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks, out of habit I've gone back to remapping Ctrl+1, etc, to the old method. At least with the new custom keyboard feature you provide us options.

Has renaming files using Cmd+M been changed to the OS default of minimize window? I can't see a way to change it back to Cmd+M, if I wanted to.

FWIW this build also fixes a bug I was about to report: when renaming folders the keyboard arrow keys didn't work - but they do now! maybe that was just my Mac.

Hi Kirk

I tried to map the new "Contact Sheet->Reveal in Finder" and had some issues. First I mapped it to "Command-O" and then to "O", but neither worked. Only after restarting PhotoMechanic (several times?) it started to work.
The shortcut is not displayed in the context menu, even if it is assigned to "Command-O" (please see attachment).
A similar behaviour like RobertE I had with "Command-M" in the first Beta, when it was minimizing the window. Only after some restarts and assigning shortcuts several times, it works now. (Sorry, I can't really reproduce it anymore)

Maybe also add an option to assign "Contact Sheet->Show Map..." to a keyboard shortcut 😉

Thanks and regards
Michael

No, not to my knowledge.  If you look at the 'Window' menu in PM running on your system, does the 'Minimize Window' have a keyboard shortcut of Command-M?

FWIW this build also fixes a bug I was about to report: when renaming folders the keyboard arrow keys didn't work - but they do now! maybe that was just my Mac.

It was a legitimate bug that I fixed in this last build.

That can be done.

Hi Kirk

No, there is no shortcut for "Window -> Minimize".
And 'unfortunately' it now works all correct, Command-M is opening the "Rename Photos" dialog 😉

Thanks for all your work!
Regards, Michael

Robert, Michael,

Here are new builds that address some of the issues you two raised and adds some new shortcuts.  (Reveal in Finder, Show Map).  The contextual menus should reflect the keyboard shortcuts.  Note: In the Contact Sheet, one can right-click on a selection of photos, a single selected photo, or a photo that is not selected at all.  The keyboard equivalents can be different in each of these conditions.

Also, I could only experience Command-M causing a Minimize to occur if I made a keyboard shortcut in System Settings (System Preferences) for 'Minimize'.  When I did so, I saw that it appeared on Window->Minimize in Photo Mechanic.  It did cause Command-M to be taken away from File->Rename Photos.

Universal-binary version: https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicR8586_14f80fff.dmg
Intel-only version: https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicR8039_58ee9308.dmg

Thanks for testing these builds.  It is much appreciated.

This build still minimises using Cmd+M, and yes the keyboard shortcut shows in the Menu: Window->Minimize in Photo Mechanic.

Interestingly on the same Mac, the latest PM6 build where you fixed my color management issue, Cmd+M renames files as expected. Screenshots attached.

Hi Kirk

I tried the new Beta and "Reveal in Finder" & "Show Map" can be successfully mapped to contact sheet keyboard shortcuts and the context menu correctly shows the assigned shortcuts. Thanks! 😊

Then I played with "Command-M" (that previously worked for "Rename Photos") and tried to assign it to "Show Map". When I unassigned it from "Rename Photos", "Command-M" started to minimize the window. Even in the settings "Command-M" wasn't assigned to "Window -> Minimize", but the shortcut "Command-M" showed up in the menu.

I then tried to apply "Option-Command-M" to "Window -> Minimize", but it said that the shortcut is already assigned to "Window -> Minimize All". But there is no "Window -> Minimize All" in the keyboard shortcut settings.

Please see attachments.

Thanks and regards
Michael
