Removal of multiple deleted files from the catalogue
« on: June 22, 2025, 01:43:13 PM »
Am using PMP v6.0 build 7285 and have a catalogue of some 420,000 images across a couple of HDD.  A number of these images have been deleted outside of PMP (for example when working in Capture One) and I am struggling to recall how I can search for all the "deleted" files to remove them from the catalogue.

I know I can right click and select delete from catalogue when I come across one.  Is there an automated way to search the catalogue and then "see" all the references that have been deleted so I can then remove them from the catalogue?

Many thanks.

The catalog system cannot tell the difference between a file having been:
Deleted
Renamed
Moved

It just knows that when a query is made that turns up one or more photos that have had any of those three operations done to them are missing.  There is a command in the Edit menu titled "Select Missing".  You can use it to select any missing photos and then remove them from the catalog.  You can search for "." and the catalog will show all of the images.  In your case that is over 400,000 images, which PM Plus can handle, but it will take time to stream all of them from the catalog into the contact sheet.

Hi Kirk,

Thanks for reply.  Unfortunately I have checked the "Edit" menu and "Select Missing" does not appear as an option as per attached pdf.  Does using a Windows version make any difference?

I'm sorry.  I was going from recollection.

Edit → Select Catalog Status → Source file Unavailable

Hi Kirk, The trawl through the 400+k images has just completed and the resulting contact sheet includes all of my same number of images!  Perhaps I have done something wrong but I was expecting to see a contact sheet with grey boxes showing a file number / name in red where the the actual file is missing.

What have I not done correctly?

The images that cannot be found have yellow status indicators on them.  Doing the Edit → Select Catalog Status → Source file Unavailable command should select them.  If you want to see only them, then you can change the popup menu in the Contact Sheet toolbar from "All" to "Selected".  Then you can evaluate them for removal.

Hi Kirk,

Many thanks for the extra step - large number of deleted images now removed form the catalogue.

Thanks again for your help.
