Add new "Digital Source Type" types, please
« on: September 05, 2025, 07:13:24 AM »
I imagine this would be a simple fix, but after trying to map up a new metadata model I realized that the available "Digital Source Types" in PhotoMechanic don't match all types that seem to be recommended by IPTC.

For example it seems that the new Google Pixel 10 uses "computational capture" and "Edited using Generative AI"

The missing types in PhotoMechanic as far as I can see:
  • Multi-frame computational capture sampled from real life
  • Virtual event recording
  • Edited using Generative AI
  • Digital creation
  • Composite of captured elements
  • Human-edited media

Could these types be added, please?  :)

Some are also considered retired, but should perhaps be used for backwards compatibility?
The retired types that are still in PhotoMechanic:
  • Digital art (replaced by Digital creation ??)
  • Created by software (replaced by a combination of Screen Capture, Data-driven media, Pure algorithmic media, and Created using Generative AI???)

I also find support for this Digital Source Type interesting because there are still no news about C2PA implementation in PhotoMechanic. Even if I can't prove that images are real with the Digital Source Type, it would still be useful as a tool to clearly mark images in our archive.

Yes, they'll be in the next release of Photo Mechanic 2025.  I've attached a screenshot of the updated menu.

We've been working on a C2PA solution for some time now.  The standard keeps evolving and there is a key feature missing that needs implementation by the C2PA folks before we can release a product that will meet the needs of our customers.
