{resolution} for 300ppi PNG showing as 72 pixels/inch
« on: April 27, 2026, 01:26:53 PM »
Hello, the {resolution} variable reports 300ppi PNG files as being 72 pixels/inch.  This occurs: A) in Contact Sheet labels that include the {resolution} variable, and B) when {resolution} is written & saved into any IPTC field.

This is strange, because:
1) The source file (JPG) is 300ppi.
2) The PNG that is rendered from the source file is configured for 300ppi in Adobe PhotoShop 2026.
3) The PNG file's EXIF data shows X & Y resolution = 300 ppi.  In fact, there are no instances of a "72" anywhere in EXIF, in any context.
4) The following tools/OS report the PNG's resolution as 300ppi:
 - PhotoShop 2026
 - EXIFTool (see attached excerpt)
 - Windows 11 Image Properties | Details

Why does PM show the same file's resolution as 72ppi?

PhotoMechanic 2026.2 Build 9034 (cae4923)
Windows 11 Pro 25H2 Build 26200.8246

Could be a bug. Even after setting the resolution to something else using "Set Resolution" from the tools menu in Photo Mechanic, the {resolution} variable will give the new resolution until you close the contact sheet, then the next time you open a contact sheet with that image it will go back to returning 72 ppi. Well need to look into it.
