No upload via SFTP
« on: October 26, 2026, 09:02:01 AM »
Hello,
I have pm 6 build 7285 installed on my imac and my macbook air. Both computers with the latest updates, pm with the latest update.
I had to change my server-connection latly and since then I lost the ability to upload photos with my laptop, while the upload with the imac works. I also can connect to the new server on my laptop via filezilla.
I tried to enter the server, name and password for >10 times and I took the data from the email which I used on the imac as well as I entered the data manually. While doing this I deleted the server-data and re-entered them and also restarted the computer and pm several times.
I also deleted pm from my laptop and tried to reinstall it. There it seems that the erasing wasn't sufficient, since the program remembered the login for the server. The error still occurded in the same way.
I always get the same error message. Attatched you will find the screenshots I took.
It would be great if you are able to find the problem.
Sincerely
Thomas

I'm not sure why the same settings would work on one computer but not another computer.

Simply deleting an application does not remove its preferences

Preferences are stored at:
~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic

You could try deleting/backing up this folder and starting with a fresh one and setting up a new connection.

You could try exporting the preferences from the computer where it is working and importing them to the computer where it is not: https://camerabits.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/48000341456-backing-up-your-preferences

Otherwise, I can't think of why two computers with the same settings on the same version of Photo Mechanic would have an issue with connecting to a server unless there is something specifically blocking Photo Mechanic from making the connection (and not filezilla). Are there any server logs that show an attempt to connect?

Hello,
thank you for your help.
I can't find the folder: "Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic" on the laptop at all.
Corresponding with this the log file (pm.log) has the error messages: i.e.: "Sun Oct-18-2026 12:35:51.138][205dd3e40][36656476] DiskUtils.mm:2783 FindFiles::_findUnix(): unable to scan '/Users/doctomreuhl/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic/fileupload/snapshot/builtin/AmazonS3/', couldn't open directory.
[Sun Oct-18-2026 12:35:51.138][205dd3e40][36656476] DiskUtils.mm:2783 FindFiles::_findUnix(): unable to scan '/Users/doctomreuhl/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic/fileupload/snapshot/builtin/Box/', couldn't open directory.

i also exported the preferences from my iMac and imported them into the laptop, error message is the same.
I remember that I had the same or a similar error before but it dissapeared without major action.

Sincerely

Thomas

It is not possible to run Photo Mechanic if ~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic does not exist or cannot be created.

Are you sure you are looking in ~/Library/ and not /Library/? Open Finder, click on the 'Go' menu, and choose 'Go to folder' and paste:

 ~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic and then press return.

Hello,

I found the folder with the preferences. I deleted it and restarted pm. After filling in the required settings the same upload error occured. After this I deleted the folder again and imported the pmx-Export.pmx file. It restored the correct settings but the error remains.
My feeling is that there is something wrong before the attempt to upload. As I wrote I had the same problem years ago but it was easy to solve. But I can't remember what the error caused but would appreciate if you could help me.

Sincerely
Thomas
