Moving data from one field to annother?
« on: August 27, 2007, 09:12:56 PM »
Since I have started using a PM I would like to fix some field info from days past.   Basically I want to move any date from the object name to the keywords field.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

Thanks for all the help!

Troy,

Since I have started using a PM I would like to fix some field info from days past.   Basically I want to move any date from the object name to the keywords field.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

You can put the {object} variable in the Keywords field of the IPTC Stationery Pad dialog, set the Keywords 'apply' and 'append' checkboxes.  But this will copy the Object Name field always.  It won't take into account whether the Object Name has a string of letters/numbers that look like a 'date'.

You could always use the custom labels in the Contact Sheet preferences to put the {object} variable in one of the labels, and then when you browse through the photos, make note of all images that have a date in that label (select them as you see them) and then apply the IPTC Stationery Pad to the selection.

HTH,

-Kirk

Ahhhhhh!  So very Cool.  Is there a way to apply that to an entire directory and sub-directory without having to open all image in contact sheet then apply?  I have 20,000 images in who know how many directories I wish to apply to.

Thanks for all the great advice!

Jonzinator, The good news is: Yes, this is possible!

What you need to do is,
0) Prepare the IPTC stationary pad the way you want it to be

1) In the navigator, right click on the main folder and in the pop-up menu, select either "Open Folder and Subfolders in new Contact Sheet" or "Open Folder and Subfolders replacing Contact Sheet".
Note: this only works if non of the (sub)folders are currently in any of the contact sheets.

2) Select all image files

3) Apply the IPTC stationary pad to the selected files

The bad news is: with 20.000 images in one contact sheet, it is going to be SLOW. In fact I'm not even sure PM can handle this many files in one sheet (try it and let us know  ;D)
Because of this, you may want to split your action into smaller groups of (sub)folders

Good luck and patience ;)

That worked perfect!   Ran pretty fast as well.

Thanks for the advice!  The more I use PM the more I love it!

99% full sized jpgs rendered from various cameras.  Library size was about 20gb.   Worked like a charm!
