I'm not sure I understand you.  What are you trying to achieve?

I think he wants to create code replacement files with Microsoft Word or Excel.

I do not recommend that.  You just need a simple text editor that can write text in the UTF-8 format.  On Windows, Notepad2.exe is an excellent, free solution:

On Mac OS X, TextWrangler2 is an excellent, free solution:

Just make sure you use at least one tab character between your code and your replacement.  And when you save the text file, save it in the UTF-8 format.

Then load it into Photo Mechanic.

I was wondering if it's possible & there's applications / advantages for using the same PM replacement codes, with other software?

I know of no other software that offers a code replacement feature.
I think it is unique to Photo Mechanic and was a user-generated feature request about two years ago.
