I can't find my EOS sound clips in PM
« on: June 08, 2006, 07:17:41 AM »
I am saving caption files using the recorder on an EOS 1D MKII.
The camera shows the icon for attached sound file.
With older cameras and older versions of PM I had no
problems seeing a little icon that said I had a sound file
attached when looking at the contact sheet.
Now nothing shows. Is this a configuration of side car
files in PM that I don't have correct on my new version?
Or is it a custom function in the EOS that is not set right?
I am using Windows version 4.4
Tell me how to configure if you can.
Thanks for the help.

Go to the Preferences dialog on the General tab, and make sure that audio playback is enabled.

Your sound icons should reappear.

P.S.  You should upgrade to at least 4.4.3, but 4.4.3.1 is just around the corner...

The sound files show up in the initial look at my CF card, but when I copy
them to my laptop, the sound file is not there.
Please steer me to the proper preference setting to copy
the sound file when I move files from card.
Thanks

If you are using the copy command, make sure you have the "Copy WAV files" checkbox checked.  If it is not checked, then the sound files (.WAV) will not be copied.

Thanks for that. I have used this program since version 1, but never
paid any attention or noticed  that check box. (I now wonder if it was
on some of the old versions and copied files automatically)
Anyway, now I see it and it is checked.
This is the first support I have needed on this fine product that I
depend on daily and find to be near perfection for what I need.
I have never seen such responsive support before.

thanks again.

Hi
I am taking a look at PM primarily because I find Bridge too slow when entering meta data. I also use sound clips to record my captions and then later I key them into the proper field. I have been going through several folders of RAW files (Canon 1Ds II) that include WAV files as well in PM and cannot see any of the sound files. I am on a Mac, using PM 4.4.3.1 and cannot see any box to check regarding playback enabled in the general preferences or anywhere else. I want to be able to see the sound file in the contact sheet. The answer is probably very simple and I am just missing it. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Clive

In order for PM to associate a sound file with an image, both the image and the sound file must have the same base name (filenames must be the same, not counting the extension.)

View the folder with the Finder/Windows Explorer.  Do the names compare exactly?  If not, you'll have to rename them to match again.

Thanks Kirk for your prompt reply. All solved, I was looking in older folders where I changed the file names to a sequential numbering system and hence the WAV files were numbered one numeral away from the appropriate image file. I was half expecting the contact page to look similar to Bridge or iView and was a little confused when I didn't see the sound file (even though the name was not the same). I don't rename files the same way anymore and in current RAW folders can see the sound icon and listen as well.

Good to hear.  One thing that's nice about our renaming is that if you rename within Photo Mechanic, we'll rename your WAV files along with the RAW files so they always stay in sync.  So use our renaming, and this problem won't happen again.
