After reading several posts, I understand it is within the license agreement to use the same
license key for a single laptop and desktop combo as long as the two aren't used at the same
time, correct?  But, can the same key be used for one Mac desktop and a Windows Laptop?

Yes, absolutely.  The same registration info will work on both platforms.
