Help on Burning Files in a Specific Order
« on: June 28, 2008, 07:36:42 PM »
I have placed and then selected a group of files in Arrangement and burned them to a disc. Yet when, I viewed the disc, they were not in the desired order, but were arranged alphabetically per filename. I've looked thru settings/prefs to see what I need to change to have them burned in the desired order, but it is not apparent to me. What am I missing? All help appreciated. Using PM 4.5.3.2 and Mac OS 10.4.11. Thanks, Richard

The files are added to the disc in the order they're in the Contact Sheet.  What is likely happening is that the Finder is showing them alphabetically since that is what it does when showing any disk.

Kirk: thanks for the response. Is there a way  to have them appear in the desired order other than dragging and dropping the files once the disk is displayed? Thanks, Richard

Kirk: When I click on the disc icon, a window opens on the desktop showing the files in alphabetical order. When I click on a file, it opens in Preview. Thanks, Richard

The Finder is always going to show the files on the disc in alphabetical order.  There is no way to stop this by rearranging the files on the disc.  The Finder is always going to sort them the way it wants to.

No.  There is no way to solve your problem.

Here is why.  Let's say you arrange your files in reverse filename sort order and you burn a disc.  Then you open up the disc with the Finder and view it by filename.  The files will be in filename sort order, not reverse filename sort order because the Finder is sorting the items before it displays them.

Does that make sense?

Kirk: yup. Would this work? What if I copied the files to a new folder and then within that folder changed the file names to numbers, i.e. 1,2,3 etc.,making 1 the first first file I want to see? Richard

Yes, if you're willing to rename the files then that would work.
