Spell check issue

I am having a spell check issue with 4.6.2.1 of Photo Mechanic for Macintosh. I am running 10.6.2.

Spell check works occasionally. Most of the time it does not catch misspelled words.

It is a bug in Mac OS X 10.6.x.  Apple is working on a fix.

I noticed this issue is still present with Mac OS 10.6.3 that was released today. 

Any ideas of a work around?

No, Apple is aware of the problem and the fix needs to come from them.  There is no workaround available.

I'm also very disappointed to see that Apple didn't fix this issue in 10.6.3.  This article from January made me think it would be included:

Other individual and welcomed enhancements include improvements to Snow Leopard's automatic spell correction...

Kirk, do you think us users complaining to Apple might help speed up the fix?  Is there a specific bug or reference number we can cite so they know exactly what we're asking them to fix?

I suppose if a number of people were to get a free developer account from Apple, they could all file a bug report with the same description (which would cause all of them to be marked as a duplicate) and perhaps that would send a message...

The original bug number is: 7226720
My bug was marked as a duplicate of the above bug so my ability to get information as to the status of the bug is somewhat limited (I have to request status instead of status being pushed to me automatically and often when I request status, weeks go by with no reports coming in.)

It looks like the spell check bug has not been fixed in the 10.6.4 upgrade.

I was about to logon to post the same thing. Just finished installing 10.6.4 and it is still broken.

This doesn't seem like that complicated of an issue. Kirk, any idea why Apple is dragging their feat to fix it? I would assume it affects more applications then just PM.

I have no idea.  Apple often doesn't fix the bugs I've filed.  Some go back several years.

Kirk, thank you so much for the work-around in the new 4.6.5 beta. I haven't used my 10.6 machine on assignment yet, but spell check seems to work appropriately while playing around with it briefly just now.

The workaround was to add my own subclass of NSUndoManager (which I changed to do nothing about undo/redo) and then turn Undo support on for text fields.  I previously had the undo support turned off since the undo manager is so very broken on Mac OS X when running modal dialogs.  Turning Undo on makes spell checking work on 10.6.x.

I am in the process of trying to get Apple to either fix undo for modal dialogs in the OS, or provide a workaround that I can implement myself.  So far no results but we're in contact.
