So we set up multiple ingest presets and are in the thick of a multi shooter job....
We've been doing this flawlessly for months.

The images are showing up in the wrong directories.
Captions are found/not found etc....
The first thing I would do is run Apple's Disk Utility and check out all of your hard drives. Repair them if errors were found.
Possible explainations include:
Ingesting with a secondary drive that's a cloned drive into the mirror directory.
That sentence just makes no sense to me. Is this a RAID array?
Ingesting to the same directory twice (same for primary and secondary).
But even when we corrected that it was still v unreliable.
While that should be OK, you'd be getting collisions with the names and the secondary images would automatically be renamed.
What prefs should we be trashing (we dumped the cache which locked up the program)
Dumping the cache while Photo Mechanic is running is not a supported operation.
You could delete or rename your Preferences file. It is in the following path:
/Users/<your login name>/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.plist
You can delete it if you want, but you can instead just rename it so you could re-enable it later.
ALSO Anyway of setting up a captioning that could caption to primary and secondary drives???
That is a primary function of Ingest. Just choose a Primary destination and a Secondary destination on your two hard drives. The files will be captioned and renamed the same way on both drives, leaving you with a backup. We always recommend ingesting to two places at once unless you are really pressed for time.
Let me know what you find when you run Apple's Disk Utility (it is in Applications/Utilities).
