Multi-threaded "Save As"
« on: March 31, 2011, 02:49:36 PM »
It has been a while since this question has been brought up in an earlier thread of mine, and I wanted to know if there has been any progress in this front. All the computers I use, including my personal computers, are multi-core or multi-processor based. If this process can be improved, it could save us a lot of time.

No, no work has been done to utilize multiple CPUs to save images.  Disk I/O would be a limiting factor at some point.  Making PM save on 2-4 CPUs would probably be a win since scaling/encoding work could be interleaved with disk I/O.
