Emailing verticals and horizontals

Is there a way of emailing a bunch of irregular sized images so they will end up being the same size regardless of orientation?
Currently if I put in a custom output size they end up having the same width, so the verticals are much larger files than the horizontals...

Try putting the same size in for both the width and the height.

what are the parameters of the custom size boxes?
I thought that it would make a square image if both dimensions were the same...

For the record I often use this dialog as a resize tool....
Its much faster than doing a Photoshop action.
I then save the images.
It would be great to have a save attachments option and also a way to strip the finder icons off the images (make them smaller without losing metadata).

The parameters are the width and height of a box that you want to fit your image into.  The aspect ratio of the image is preserved.
