New hard drive but where are my templates?
« on: June 11, 2012, 07:52:39 AM »
I have just replaced my main hard drive which failed a number of times and gave me no end of problems. I have now re installed PM 4.6.8 and it is running very well, much better than before    ;D

I still have the bulk of my old files on the old drive which will be used as storage, or maybe a doorstop. Where will I find the templates that I saved using the thunderbolt on the old drive?

Thanks

On a Mac, you'll find them in your user library: ~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic under the various folders (one for each dialogue).

Under Windows, it must be something similar but I don't know the exact location of the "main" photomechanic preferences folder there.

Hope this helps,
Hayo

What OS are you running, Frank?

Is that the same OS you were running on the old drive?

Yes Kirk, same system, both Wndows 7. New drive is the boot drive and old drive is to become storage/door stop when all the info is transferred.

Thanks

Frank,

For me on my Windows 7/64 system the path to all Photo Mechanic preferences is:

C:\Users\kbaker\AppData\Roaming\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic\

You'll see folders like IPTCDialogSettings and IngestDialogSettings, etc.  Inside those folders are your snapshots.  You can simply copy all of the Settings folders over from your door stop drive to your new drive.

HTH,

No luck so far as I can't see a similar path on my old drive, data may have gone. What file extensions should I look for? I have a very good piece of freeware which will find them if I have an idea of the file extension.

Thanks again

The 'AppData' folder is hidden by default in the OS.  You just need to turn of the Windows Explorer features that hide 'System' folders from you.  Snapshot files end in a '.snap' extension.
