Difference between creation time and capture time.
« on: August 22, 2012, 02:43:59 PM »
I synchonise times on my Canon 5D11 and 7D cameras but after ingest the files are not in exact  order of how they were taken.

Is this to do with creation/capture times?

Are you sorting by capture time?

Are you sure your cameras are set to exactly the same time?
If you inspect the file info (use the info text and appropriate variables), what do the capture times say?

Capture time sorting should just work, so it's likely something is set incorrectly…

Hope his helps,

Does the time stamp applied to the images experience a shift because of how long they are held in the buffer before actually being written to the CF card. This is why I am mentioning capture time and creation time.

Capture and creation times should generally be the same but this should not influence what you are seeing. You haven't answered my earlier question yet though: are the camera times exactly the same (and I mean down to the second)

Also if you're shooting multiple frames in a row, multiple images will have the same capture time in seconds. Depending on the camera model, subseconds are recorded as well. To be able to sort including subseconds, create a custom sort and sort on {datesort}{timesortlong} this should do the trick (I use his feature all the time)

Hope his helps,

I know this sounds weird, but is there any chance you shoot raw and generate jpegs after ingesting images?
